To create the optimal conditions for microbial degradation of contaminants in the soil, Terra Nova Biosystems utilizes a proven process. By following the process outlined below we are able to ensure timely, effective reductions for a wide range of pollutants and achieve acceptable regulatory levels.
First, Terra Nova Biosystems will excavate the contaminated soil. By excavating the contaminated soil we are able to contain the pollutants and ensure we treat all the soil that has been affected.
We then form the contaminated soil into a long pile called a windrow. The windrow formation allows us to more easily manipulate soil conditions to foster bacterial metabolism of the contaminants.
Now we introduce the microbes into the windrow. This is done by spraying on a liquid containing the hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria or other targeted strains of microbes (the inoculant) on top of the windrow.
The windrow is then turned so that the microbes are evenly mixed throughout the soil. The turning process also mixes oxygen through the soil, which speeds up the degradation process.
After the remediation process is completed, the soil is clean and becomes its own backfill. There is no need to truck in clean soil.
